A Common Trumpeter

31 Mar

I don’t think there is anything common about this bird at all with it’s luminescent blue and purple breast feathers and piercing orange eyes. I think we need to rename it the luminescent trumpeter! Taken at Cango Wildlife Ranch, South Africa, September 2009.

Unique Relationship

25 Mar

Not too many people would feel comfortable kissing a 200 pound white tiger, but for the staff at Cango Wildlife Ranch it’s just another day at work. While I don’t support the “conservation” work they do, I am extremely jealous that they get to spend their days (and get paid for it) raising and taking care of such amazing creatures. Taken at Cango Wildlife Ranch, South Africa, September 2009.

Peacocking

23 Mar

Of all the birds the peacock is most certainly one of the most beautiful, and boy do they know it; the term “peacocking” was coined for a reason. Not the most tack sharp photo ever, and not one of the best peacock photos. I was on the fence whether or not to include this in my portfolio, but in the end the brillant show of colors won me over. Taken at Cango Wildlife Ranch, South Africa, September 2009.

Double the Trouble

22 Mar

Twice the mischief…actually there were three of them, so triple it, but these little babies were quite naughty and playful; put a few holes in t-shirts, left quite a few bite marks and scratches, but all in good fun. Taken at Cango Wildlife Ranch, South Africa, September 2009.

Baby Cheetah 2

20 Mar

Another profile shot of one of the baby cheetahs. Such preciousness; there really isn’t anything more to comment on except this was taken at Cango Wildlife Ranch, South Africa, September 2009.

Baby Cheetah 1

19 Mar

It was really hard to get a good shot of the babies because they constantly move around. Luckily I had a little over a week to capture a few good shots, including this one, which showcases their amazing red amber eyes. I have a new found appreciation for photographers that specialize in wildlife, because unlike people, you can’t tell wild animals to stay still and look pretty for the picture. It takes a lot of patience and most of the time good luck to capture a good shot. Taken at Cango Wildlife Ranch, South Africa, September 2009.

Heart-Shaped

17 Mar

I love how the position of the body just happened to make a perfect heart. Taken at Cango Wildlife Ranch, South Africa, September 2009.

Ring-tailed Lemur 2

16 Mar

“Look into my eyes” … or well he’s probably thinking something like that. I love this up-close and personal shot of the lemur; the eyes are piercing a whole right into your soul you almost have to look away to keep your secrets hidden. Love them! Taken at Cango Wildlife Ranch, South Africa, September 2009.

Ring-tailed Lemur 1

14 Mar

Easily one of my favorite animals in the world are lemurs. When deciding to take my next trip it was between Madagascar and somewhere in Africa. Luckily I got the best of both worlds. And while I don’t approve of animals in captivity for entertainment I can’t deny that my heart burst with love and joy every time we got to hang out with the lemurs at Cango Wildlife Ranch. With there tiny human-like hands, curious temperaments and clown like comedic gestures it was hard to be anything but happy around them. And well I can’t leave out the mention of their eyes, bright orange orbs oozing their fantastic personalities, they always say eyes are the window to your soul, and their’s were bright and shone beautiful. Taken September 2009.
